A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse who has completed advanced education (master's or doctoral degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions. Numerous studies conclude that nurse practitioners perform as well as physicians in patient diagnosis, management of specific diseases and patient outcomes. NPs have improved access to and affordability of health care by consistently offering high quality and cost effective services to patients for over 40 years.
